Hi all,

I'm a student pilot who is a few months away from taking my practical test. I don't own a headset but I don't know which way to look for a decent, (and cheap) headset. I've tried the Bose headset and loved it but cannot afford that. I guess I would like to know what you all think would be a good choice. I'm totally at a loss.

I started with a Lightspeed 25XL that I bought refurbished, then got a Lightspeed 20-3G. They did a great job. I've since gotten more expensive headsets, including a Zulu and Clarity Aloft. They are more comfortable than the 25XL, but the 25XL wasn't UNcomfortable and it did nearly as good a job.

I'd recommend any Lightspeed ANR headsets, and you can find them used on EBay or refurbished directly from Lightspeed.

I've found that so many of them fit differently. It is helpful to find a pilot shop that has a selection so that you can look at them yourself. Some places will let you try them out which is nice. If you feel comfortable, do a little research and then if there is somebody in the club or who you know, ask to borrow theirs for a flight.
Myself, I have used Lightspeed for a while now and really like them.

Thanks for your suggestions :) I just realized that I posted this in the TFP discussion board. Sorry about that!

I started with a low cost headset (AvCom) which was fine for years. In retrospective, though, I would say, that few people do not go on and strive for more in flying. So that implies that at some point you want that better headset. For me, this was the Clarity Aloft and believe me, I love it. I would say, if you can afford it, go for it right away ... you should not regret it.

... I just figured on Jason's vieos that he is flying a Clarity Aloft. So I thought, this should be a good choice. Apparently he must be flying a lot and with the filming he needs to have good audio.
