Last week was pretty big for me. Friday I took my Sport Pilot written exam and scored 100% (Thank you very much). And then Saturday morning I soloed in my training LSA, a Czech Airworks Sport Cruiser. I love that plane. Can’t find much discussion in the forums regarding Sport Pilot training or LSA’s in general. In my area of southeastern Virginia there is only one school within 150 miles with a single LSA in which to train. I am wondering how in other areas Sport Pilot training may be catching on? The Sport Pilot certificate is perfect for me because with some extra instruction in controlled airspace the only real limitation is flying at night, which I couldn’t see staying current on night requirements anyway. I am on track to get my SP ticket for about half what a PPL would cost. Anyone else gotten his or her SP cert yet or in training? Mike (Rtrudr).

Congratulations on your written...and solo!
From my experience, the Private Pilot is still the mainstream. Most of my students envision themselves expanding their skills so this is really the best option.
I'm glad to hear it's working for you. Perhaps other pilots out there have info?

Thanks Anais, From the start I have trained and studied as if I were preparing for the PPL cert. It has served me well so far (hence the 100%). I know I am preparing and learning more than will be required for the SP checkride but I like that. It is just a really big advantage for me, especially financially, to go for the SP cert and then continue learning from there. I have not been able to find any info or heard any experiences from anyone taking the SP checkride. I think I will the first one in my part of Virginia to take the SP oral/practical. Hoping someone can give me some insights. Mike
