I'm thinking this might be better suited in "Ask a CFI", but maybe a non-CFI will have an answer...

OK, tonight I was having dinner with some of my classmates, and of course the conversation turns into "How did you get your time?" and "Where did you train?"

In the course of the conversation, one of the guys makes a statement that stopped me dead in my tracks. I typically consider myself somewhat of a Regs weenie. I kinda feel like I HAVE to be. That's my rulebook. Anyway, he proceeds to make the statement, and to me it seemed so far fetched I'm having a hard time remembering it precisely, but heck, maybe he's right. I was speechless and actually stumbled for a reaction.

Guy: "Part 141, you only need 190 hours to get your commercial."

Me:

Now so far, this guy has demonstrated nothing but a near-perfect grasp of everything he's been given in training so he had built up a pretty solid head of respect from everyone in the class, but this one...I don't know. I don't have a FAR/AIM in front of me, but last I knew, 61 or 141, you needed 250 hours total time to be eligible to take your Comm checkride.

How we doing?

nope, by at least some approved pt.141 syllabi, 190 hrs is the minimum. Thats what it was where I trained, I think I ended up with just over 200 when I got my commercial.

I second that. I remember researching between local clubs and Sierra Academy down the road and their sales included...@200 hrs for your commercial. It's true.
