In one of your older podcasts you mentioned that the flying club you belonged to had an LSA for rent. You also mention that you fly out of Oakland. Which club do you belong to and do they still have the LSA?
I'm local and I'm traveling to the south bay to rent one for Sport Pilot instruction now and would like to find something closer to Hayward, any suggestions?

Jason now instructs out of Palo Alto and they no longer have an LSA. I don't know about the club he was at in Oakland.

I know there is an LSA at Salinas, but that's not exactly close.

I'm hoping we will see more soon as fuel prices increase and they have lower operating costs.

As far as I know there aren't any LSAs at Hayward. I'm a new instructor working at a flight school there. I do know about an LSA that was talked about at Sterling Aviation at Concord (KCCR) but it's not currently listed on their site. I also just stopped by West Valley Flying Club (with rentals out of Palo Alto (PAO), San Carlos (SQL), Hayward (HWD), and South County (E16)) and don't see an LSA on the list. Sorry, don't know any in the South Bay. A bummer because I'd really like to fly one.

I think Lou Fields is still instructing over on the north field in Oakland. Last I knew he was doing sport pilot instruction, mostly aerobatics.

Amelia Reid Aviation has some LSA at RHV.

They have a new Evektor SportStar and a Zlin Savage Cub if you're looking for something relatively new. Also, they have a couple Champs and a Taylorcraft that are sport pilot eligible.

Excellent info bmt, thanks! I've got to get down there and get a tailwheel endorsement and some time in a Champ or a Cub!

Glad to help. I'm working on my PPL down there in a Citabria right now, but I'm looking forward to trying out some of other planes. The SportStar looks like it would be a fun plane to sight-see in with the bubble canopy.

Thanks for the replies, I've confirmed that Sterling at Concord has a Tecnam Bravo and Reid has the planes mentioned in the other post.
I called Sterling and they have never instructed for Sport Pilot but are anxious to start. Note that the Technam is a high wing.
