A Florida resident checking his mail ONLY ONE MILE west of the crash scene reported seeing the Cirrus on a training flight go down about 3 p.m. and called 9-1-1. However, Volusia County sheriff's deputies did not begin searching for the plane until being notified that it was one hour overdue at 8:30p.m. To hear the 911 call, click on Audio 9-1-1 call reporting crash hyperlink at the bottom of the article at:

The caller sounds quite credible, reporting that it was in a spiral and that the CAPS was deployed. They described where it went down. It’s shocking to me that the sheriff’s department did so little in response to the 911 call while the pilots and passengers could be bleeding to death. Could this happen in your part of the country?
