So maybe I am just not looking in the right place. But with runway incursions being such an issue, why aren't they marked on airport diagrams? I certainly would like to know what to expect and where they are prior to flying into an unfamiliar airport.

Their locations on an airport diagram are pretty obvious without being marked. There's a hold-short line wherever a taxiway meets a runway. When you're actually out there taxiing, it's sometimes not obvious you're about to cross a runway, so the hold short line is there to make sure you know.

Just my $.02 (Cdn)

not a bad idea, and i believe that jeppesen highlights "hot spots" on their taxiway diagrams. however you really should be looking outside for the hold short lines, not at the taxiway diagram.

and your 2 cents canadian is now the same as my 2 cents US :D

I know of one airport where the hold short line is down an incline and not at the taxi way runway intersection. A sure got-cha!

Good comment on Jepp "hot spots". I am currently evaluating whether or not to switch from NOS to Jepp and will check it out.

Thanks for the suggestions!

FAA maintains "hot spot" charts also.. Check out:

Another point to consider is that by design, the hold-short line is painted in-line next to the Runway Designation sign, which is also white numbers on a red background, just like a stop sign. That's what it looks like as you approach a runway to take-off.
Coming off the runway after landing, just know that no matter what taxiway you turn onto, it HAS to have a hold-short line which you will report "clear of the runway" once you cross.

The answer to this question is outside the airplane, not inside of it. :D
