I'm considering moving and would like to know of any websites that give statistical information about aviation weather by location (e.g. number of VFR days per year, number of clear days per year, frequency of thunderstorms etc). I've done some searching but haven't come up with any good websites. The idea is to make sure my new location would be reasonably good for flying and perhaps even find rankings of locations (e.g. what locations in the southeast US offer the best flying weather?).

Where are you moving from? Any thoughts where to? I can tell you that the weather is pretty nice out here in CA. Marine layer to contend with at some airports but pretty fair flying altogether.

Interesting question. I don't have an answer, but caution you with regards to simply "VFR days"... Recall that one reason a day is nice and clear is because there may significant unstable air keeping it clear. The result is turbulence. So while you can probably get local Chamber of Commerce bragging about "300 clear days per year", they probably can't tell you that 50% of the time there's also an airmet tango.

If there were a metric for VFR days, I wonder how it would be calculated.

Here in Oakland when we are in the fog cycle, we have fog that burns off around 10-11AM and then doesn't return until late afternoon or evening. Would 11AM-7PM be considered a VFR day? There are days when Livermore burns off early, but we, at OAK, get stuck.
