I was thinking about the Cogan crash this past winter and the lack of attention the pilots where paying to their instruments. Do you guys think that an airspeed warning mechanism that makes a beeping noise ever time you gain or lose 10 kts would have saved lives?

That's what the FO is paid to sit there and do. But she didn't.

Well, I don't think she's supposed to make a beeping noise...more like a verbal callout of "airspeed" :D
