Found that ATC audio from the See and Avoid episode utterly fascinating.

What I found most interesting was all the other traffic still on frequency after the emergency was declared.

Initially I was surprised as my first instinct would be to keep quiet to keep the frequency clear. But there was a call right after the mayday that gave me a little 'aha'. The pilot had seemingly just taken off and made the fastest call I've heard - and I've heard some real gibberish! He called the tower to request the change of frequency to departure. Listen to it again...

The 'aha' was you're still in controlled airspace. There's absolutely nothing stopping another midair just because an emergency has been declared. If anything it may be more likely as the controller is devoting a lot of attention to the two damaged aircraft.

So you still make the same calls. Use common sense in that you want to get off the air as quick as possible, but you still have to let the controller - and other pilots - know what you're doing.

BTW, where did this audio come from? I'd be fascinated to hear more like this...

The audio was posted by another member in the forum-see the above link. It's a little intense to listen but so helpful. Avweb had it posted.
