I have my IFR checkride on Sunday so to all the CFI's out here. Whats the top 3 things your students have to say about it.. Mostly in terms of what they did wrong or didnt know either on the Oral or Flight?

I dont want to miss the obvious

just keep your standard procedures in mind and you'll do fine. one of my more recent students came back with a DE comment to use the VSI more. like on a ILS at 90 knots you should have about a 500 fpm decent, makes a great cross check that you are trending towards staying on the glideslope. but you've gotten this far and your instructor is happy sending you for the ride, so just show the examiner what you can do. have fun and be sure to report back!

Got my IFR ticket today so yay for that. I have to say though it was probably one of the worst flights I have ever taken.. not in terms of the examiner but of my own performance. I think that my greatest strength is being self aware. I am never doing something wrong and dont know about it but it still bothers me that it happens at this point. For instance today I was probably +200 ft the assigned altitude the whole time I felt. In the oral portion I blaned on the potential for a airport to have non-standard alternate minimums. I guess I should say that it just scares me a little to have the paper that says Im qualified but to not feel completely qualified.

the DE said dont be hard on yourself
my instructor says dont be too hard on yourself

but whats at stake here.

allot

fustrating is what I call it all.

congrats!

this is exactly how i determine if a student is ready for a checkride, if their 'worst flying' is still good enough.

instrument is probably one of the toughest checkrides out there. very technical in nature and intense, and like you said, the consequences are severe so it deserves respect. good job!

Hi!

Congratulations...clearly you were ready, as Tony says, even your worst flight is good enough. IFR isn't too forgiving. You should proud, it's an intense checkride.

a :D
